The Board Attorney's office is established pursuant to Section 19-3-47 of the Mississippi Code, which permits county boards of supervisors to employ counsel to represent them in legal matters. The Board Attorney's duties include representation of the 5-member Bolivar County Board of Supervisors, all County elected officials and department heads; attendance, counseling and representation at all meetings of the Board; formulating policies, ordinances and regulations for Bolivar County; drafting proposed legislation; advising County officials regarding compliance with Local, State and Federal laws and regulations; liaison to Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Auditor, Legislators, and other State officials; contract preparation, interpretation and negotiation; research and writing of legal opinions, briefs and memoranda; general civil litigation and supervision of contract attorneys employed by the County.
