Background Information
My parents purchased farm acreage and engaged in the business of agricultural production. All of us were taught the art of tilling the soil, planting, and harvesting, along with frequent reminders that farming was our livelihood and we were to be proud of what we were doing...an honest day's work for an honest day's pay.
I received a high school diploma in 1965 from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, Mound Bayou, MS, and then completed graduation requirements in Political Science from Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS, in 1969. Further study was done at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NY, Mississippi State University, and Delta State University, Cleveland, MS, where I graduated in 1983 with a Master's Degree in Secondary School Administration.
My employment experiences include but are not limited to, Community Developer for the Delta Health Center, Mound Bayou, MS; Vocational Counselor at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, MS; and as a Junior Administrator at Coahoma Community College, Clarksdale, MS.
My introduction to public life and service began in 1970, when I was elected as a county school board member. I held the position until 1987. In 1988, I was elected as Supervisor for Bolivar County District III, a position I presently hold and thoroughly enjoy. During 2000, I was elected by a committee of my peers to serve as Co-Chairman of the Mid-Delta Empowerment Zone Alliance, with offices in Itta Bena, MS. I proudly serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Full Service, "Mr. Snappy" Convenience Store, and hold membership on the Executive Board of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors. My experience in Subdivision Regulations and Development recently(2001) resulted in my successful completion of the Sarah Coleman Subdivision, together with infrastructure and other amenities.
Public Administration, with emphasis on service, continues to be one of my main objectives toward enhancing the development of Bolivar County and the State of Mississippi.
As a Developer, I am presently building homes in Itta Bena and Durant for first time home buyers.
My vision is to equip the entirety of Bolivar County with complete infrastructure.
